( How California does business )

The largest state economy, built by very different industries

California has the largest economy of any state, and it is really several economies side by side: software in the Bay Area, film and music in Los Angeles, fruit, nuts and dairy in the Central Valley, container ships in Long Beach, biotech in San Diego and wine north of San Francisco. Its customers are used to well-made products, so a California website is judged against the best sites they use every day.

  1. Tech and software

Startups, SaaS companies and chip suppliers from San Francisco to San Jose and Irvine. They have seconds to explain the product to customers, hires and investors.

  2. Entertainment and creative

Production companies, post houses, agencies, photographers and the vendors around the studios in Los Angeles, where a portfolio is the sales pitch.

  3. Agriculture and food

Growers, packers and food brands in the Central Valley and the Salinas Valley that sell to distributors and, more and more, straight to customers online.

  4. Wine and hospitality

Wineries, tasting rooms, hotels and restaurants from Napa and Sonoma to Paso Robles and Temecula that live on reservations and visitors.

  5. Biotech and medical devices

Life science companies around San Diego, South San Francisco and Irvine whose buyers, partners and future employees read every technical detail.

  6. Ports, trade and logistics

Importers, customs brokers, trucking and warehouses tied to the ports of Los Angeles, Long Beach and Oakland and to trade across the Pacific.

  7. Real estate and building

Agents, builders, architects, remodelers and property managers in some of the most expensive housing markets in the country.

  8. Clean energy and home upgrades

Solar installers, battery and EV charger companies, HVAC and energy retrofits, where homeowners compare quotes carefully before signing.

Four California markets, one remote team

Our city pages cover San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego and Orange County, where Californians search most for a web designer. Companies in Sacramento, San Jose, Fresno, Santa Barbara, the Inland Empire and Palm Springs work with us in exactly the same way, by video call, WhatsApp and email.

What people search for across California

From the Bay to the border, each market has its own buyers: startups and labs up north, studios and neighborhoods in Los Angeles, the Navy and visitors in San Diego, corporate campuses and beach towns in Orange County.

The Bay Area is where software companies, venture-backed startups and biotech labs sit next to some of the most demanding restaurant and retail customers anywhere. Buyers compare five vendors in an afternoon and judge a company by its website before the first call. Pride weekend in June and the conference calendar fill hotels, bars and caterers, and the planning starts online weeks ahead.

Los Angeles runs on entertainment, fashion, the ports, real estate and a restaurant scene spread over dozens of neighborhoods. Traffic makes people search by area, not by city, and many customers search in Spanish, Korean, Armenian or Tagalog. Creative businesses win on portfolios, and service businesses win on reviews and a phone number that is easy to tap.

San Diego combines the Navy and the military, a large biotech cluster around Torrey Pines, tourism, craft breweries and trade with Tijuana across the border. Military families arrive on orders and need housing, schools and movers quickly, and Comic-Con in July fills every hotel downtown. Visitors book beaches, tours and surf lessons from their phones.

Orange County mixes corporate offices and medical device makers in Irvine, wealth management and yachts in Newport Beach, hotels and conventions around Anaheim and the surf towns along the coast. California’s searches, month by month

California opens the year with the Rose Parade and whales off the coast, moves into festival season in the desert and cherry season in the valley, spends the summer on surf, pools and air conditioning, and closes with pumpkin patches in October. Fire searches spike whenever smoke is in the air. Every rise is a window, and the right page has to be online before it opens.

( Working together )

Remote, on Pacific time, with the same team start to finish

GoSocial is based in Boca Raton, Florida, three hours ahead of California, and has built websites since 2016. We have no California office. We book Zoom or Google Meet calls at hours that suit Pacific time, so a morning meeting in Los Angeles is lunchtime for us. The people who plan your site build it, and the domain, hosting and code stay in your company’s name.

Each project begins with a 30-minute Blueprint Briefing about what the website must bring in, what is in the way today and what a rebuild involves.

Selling up and down the coast, or from California to the world?

Bring your current site, your store or just the idea. We will tell you plainly what we would change first. See all the ways to talk to us.

( Questions from California businesses )

Web design in California: your questions

Have another question? Book a Blueprint Briefing or find another way to talk to us.

Do you work with businesses outside San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego and Orange County?

Yes. Those four markets have their own pages, but we work with companies all over California: Sacramento, San Jose, Fresno, Bakersfield, Santa Barbara, the Inland Empire, Palm Springs and the North Coast. Everything happens by video call, WhatsApp and email, so location does not change the process.

We are a startup. What should our first real website include?

A sentence that says what the product does and for whom, proof that it works, pricing or a clear way to request a demo, and pages that answer what a careful buyer or investor checks: security, integrations, the team and how to reach you. It has to be fast and easy to update as the product changes.

Can one site serve customers in several parts of California?

Yes, as long as each area page says something real about that area: the neighborhoods, the jobs you do there, what is different. Pages that only swap the city name hurt more than they help, so we plan the structure around the places you actually serve.

Should our California website have a Spanish or other language version?

Often, yes. Spanish matters across most of the state, and Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean or Tagalog can matter in specific neighborhoods. We build each language as a complete version with its own titles so search engines show it to the right people, and your team reviews the wording before launch.

How much does a website cost for a California business?

Each project is quoted on its own. Page count, features such as booking or a store, languages, service areas, content and post-launch support all affect the price. After a Blueprint Briefing we have enough information to send you a real number.

When should California home service companies have seasonal pages live?

Before spring. Google Trends data for California from 2021 to 2026 shows pool service peaking in June and AC repair in July, with both climbing from March. Fire-related searches rise in late summer and jump whenever there is a major fire, so restoration and air quality pages should be ready long before.

Which months matter most for California events and visitors?

January for the Rose Parade in Pasadena, February for whale watching, April for Coachella, June for SF Pride, July for Comic-Con in San Diego and October for pumpkin patches. In Google Trends, interest in each one climbs in the weeks before, which is when hotel, tour and restaurant pages need to be ready.

Can you help us appear on Google Maps in our part of California?

We handle what the website can control: a page for each real location and service area, consistent business name, address and phone, local structured data and fast mobile pages. A complete Google Business Profile and regular reviews do the rest, and Search Console then shows which neighborhoods and searches bring people in.
